Aliya Peer, 22, went to UH, and right now lives and works in Chengdu, China, about 60 miles from the epicenter.

After hours of waiting, her family here on Oahu finally got through to her on her cell phone.

A ground blessing in Kapolei for what will be a major thoroughfare for generations to come.

The $17-million East West Road will connect future neighborhoods in what is called the second city.

The new road will eventually intersect with the future North South Road and should help traffic flow a lot better by connecting Fort Weaver Road to the future UH West Oahu campus.

Roadblocks Cleared for Aloha Cargo Sale Print E-mail

A judge has cleared several roadblocks in the Aloha Cargo sale. The judge has rejected the ongoing contract dispute with the pilots union and is allowing the sale to Saltchuk Resources to move forward. The Airline Pilots Aassociation had tried to stop the sale unless it included a collective bargaining agreement. But the judge rejected the union's attempt. The sale is scheduled to be finalized this Wednesday.

Hawaii Fellows Not Hurt by China Quake Print E-mail

The death toll from Monday's deadly earthquake in the Sichuan Province of China reached 10,000 by Tuesday afternoon Hawaii time and was still climbing.

An estimated 160,000 people of Chinese descent live in Hawaii, so there is obvious interest in what is happening there.

A former office manger at a church in Kailua was sentenced in Circuit Court on Monday for two separate schemes.

Kimberly Wheeler, 39, ripped off Windward Unity Church and also ruined her daughter's credit by stealing her identity.
