CBS is projecting that Senator Hillary Clinton has won West Virginia's Democratic Presidential primary. Exit polling has indicated strong turnout among groups that have previously favored Clinton.

Annika Sorenstam Retires Print E-mail

The Tiger Woods of women's golf is calling it quits.

Hall of Famer Annika Sorenstam will retire after the season, ending an illustrious LPGA career that including 72 wins and 10 major championships.

The 37 year old plans to announce her decision at a news conference later today at the Sybase Classic in Clifton, N.J., a source told The Associated Press.

Sorenstam has hinted she may be retiring for several seasons now. Her main reason, to devote more time to her growing business and to start a family. She is engaged to Mike McGee, son of former PGA Tour player Jerry McGee.

Congratulations to local girl Loretta Ables Sayre. The nominations came out this morning and she's up for a Tony Award for her performance as "Bloody Mary" in the broadway revival of "South Pacific." We spoke to her a short time ago from Broadway.

Public Comment Period Reopens for Haleakala Services Print E-mail

The National Park Service (NPS) is reinitiating the commercial services planning process. The process has been on hold while Haleakala National Park conducted a safety stand-down of the guided downhill bicycle tours. Commercial service activities in Haleakala National Park must comply with the overall National Park Service mandate to preserve and protect the significant natural and cultural resource while providing opportunities for public use and enjoyment.

The public comment period begins now and runs through June 10th, 2008. You can participate by writing via letter or e-mail. Lei Donations Wanted for Memorial Day Print E-mail

Fifty thousand fresh lei are needed for placement on the graves of veterans at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific at Punchbowl and at all state veterans' cemeteries for Memorial Day. The lei are needed on May 23, and can be dropped off at designated community parks and fire stations on O'ahu, and the Parks Permit Office at the Fasi Municipal Building. Loose plumeria flowers can be dropped off on May 22, at Waipahu District Park, Kailua District Park and Makua Ali'i Senior Center at 1541 Kalakaua Ave.

Interisland Parking Structure Construction Through May Print E-mail

HONOLULU INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT - INTERISLAND TERMINAL PARKING STRUCTURE
Lane closures at the Honolulu International Airport for the construction of a vehicular and pedestrian bridge connecting the new 1,800-stall parking structure to the existing Interisland Terminal Parking Structure at the following locations and times:

  • Ground level access into the Interisland Terminal Parking Structure will be closed 24/7 from Monday, May 5, through Friday, May 30. Access into the Interisland Terminal Parking Structure will be detoured through the second level makai parking entry. Access from the ground floor parking entry into the Overseas Terminal Parking Structure will continue to be maintained at all times.
  • Second level mauka entry into the Interisland Terminal Parking Structure will be closed on Monday night, May 5, through Friday morning, May 9, from 8:00 p.m. to 4:00 a.m., nightly. Access into the Interisland Terminal Parking Structure will be detoured to the second level makai parking entry. Closure of this entry point will continue weekly, Monday through Friday, through Friday, May 30.
  • Second level roadway to the Overseas Terminal Bypass Road will be closed on Monday, May 5, through Friday, May 9, from 8:00 p.m. to 4:00 a.m., nightly. Access to the Overseas Terminal will be detoured through the roadway fronting the Interisland Terminal. Closure of this area will continue weekly, Monday through Friday, through Friday, May 30.

Motorists are also encouraged to utilize the economy parking lot located at the corner of Aolele Street and Lagoon Drive. The completion of the new parking structure is slated for December 2008.
