'Aha Punana Leo

Sunrise on KGMB9 celebrates the revitalization of Hawaiian language. KGMB9 Special Correspondent Amy Kalili of the 'Aha Punana Leo joins the Sunrise cast to deliver headlines in the Native Hawaiian language. This special Sunrise segment is titled ‘Āha‘i ‘Ōlelo Ola, which translates to "Messenger of a Living Language."

"When Kamehameha was born, Naeole was entrusted as his kahu. His first job was to make sure that Alapai would not nip the wauke in the bud. He wasn't going to kill him. So, he had to take Kamehameha from Kokoiki through the district of Kohala to what he thought was a very safe place up in Awini. So there was certain things that happened along the way," said Fred Cachola.
