Sunrise on KGMB9 celebrates the revitalization of Hawaiian language. Luna Ho‘okele'Aha Punana Leo Executive Director and KGMB9 Special Correspondent Amy Kalili joins the Sunrise cast to deliver headlines in the Native Hawaiian language. This special Sunrise segment is titled ‘Āha‘i ‘Ōlelo Ola, which translates to "Messenger of a Living Language."

Local Film 'Keao' Showcased in National Film Festivals Print E-mail

Maui girl Kaliko Spenser's short film "Keao" is finished and now on the circuit of short film festivals throughout the U.S. and beyond. Being new to the art, Kaliko found the filmmaking process time-consuming. The short, about a young Hawaiian girl stuck between her culture and her job, has already had a national audience.

The Dangers of Ocean Acidification Print E-mail

Today we will focus on an issue concerning our coral. "We all know Hawaiians love seafood, it would be a shame if we lose our coral due to 'ocean acidification.'" Mahina Duarte has valuable scientific knowledge and Hawaiian insights. "So, if the coral dies, the homes for the fish will die, and there won't be enough fish to eat. The seaweed will be gone, the fish will be gone, the octopus will be gone and so on."

State Argues for Ownership to Ceded Lands Print E-mail

The groups opposing the Governor's position on selling ceded lands gathered at Washington Place in protest. These are the 1.2 million acres ceded to the United States after the illegal overthrow of the Kingdom, then transferred to the State following annexation to be held in trust.
