May 13, 1908, Congress made the first move to turn Pearl Harbor from a fertile fishing ground, into a Pacific Ocean Military power.

If you've been down these streets before you've either worked at Pearl Harbor or you had special clearance.
The entire shipyard is a high security area called the CIA, no...not that CIA.
This is the controlled industrial area, at least a small part of it. |

Pearl Harbor today is quiet and tranquil from a distance, but that's because you can't see the 4,180 workers that labor 24 hours a day to keep ships and submarines up and running, but it didn't always look like this.
Before the 1900's Hawaiians called it "Wai Momi" or "Harbor of Pearl" because of the numerous oysters that lined the ocean floor. |

Until 1961 there was no playing field for women at the University of Hawaii, no sport where they belonged.
Dr. Donnis Thompson changed that. That's why she's fondly called "the fairy godmother of UH women's sports."
Granting opportunities for female athletes was only part of her work, the other was to win over a new fan base. |
