Honolulu's mayor signed into law Monday three zoning measures that will spur new housing and jobs in Kapolei. 6,500 homes and businesses will be built in three new developments. Together, it will be called "Western Kapolei." The city believes this will add at least 7,500 new jobs to the area. "If Kapolei is about anything, it's about the future and it's about bringing hope to the future. It's about giving the children of tomorrow reason to stay in Hawaii through quality jobs, quality homes and quality education," said David Rae, vice president of Kapolei Property Development. The developer is hoping to break ground in about three years. Rae estimates it could take 20 years to complete. The total development cost would be about three billion dollars. |
