The restaurants will offer chicken and salmon with fruits, vegetables and brown rice. The entire plate is less than 400 calories. The reason for the change is because one in four kids under six years old in Hawaii is overweight. "That's scary, they're entering first grade already overweight so that's showing that a lot of this is parenting practices so when parents take their kids out to eat they need to know that children need to watch the portion sizes and eat all the colors of the rainbow," said nutritionist Nicole Kerr. "We know that in Hawaii people do have to eat at fast food places, everyone is busy and we just want to demonstrate that there is a healthier way to eat when you're out on the run and trying to get something to eat," said Dr. Galen Chock of the American Academy of Pediatrics. The healthier options are available now at select locations. It will be at all L&L restaurants by nov 1. |
