Waves with faces in the eight to 12 foot range are expected to hit the North Shore Sunday. It is good news for surfers and good news for businesses in Haleiwa town. Some merchants there report business has been slower than usual because of the bad economy. They are hoping that will change with the first big swell of the season. "It's very good news if the waves are out here because it brings a lot more traffic through Haleiwa. We only have one road going in and one road going out, so it's bumper to bumper traffic which is not good for motorists. But it's good for businesses because people get a chance to look at our shops and stop by and shop," said Shantell Rivers, manager at a women's clothing store in Haleiwa called Dawn's. |
