The U.H. Medical School has been awarded more than $10 million in new funding. On Thursday, U.H.'s Institute for Biogenesis Research got the money from the National Institutes of Health. The N.I.H. provides up to $55 million in funding to institutions across the nation. U.H. officials said the money will help make the institute a nationally competitive research center and they couldn't have it done it without one of U.H.'s most distinguished scientists. "The center was founded in 2000 to perpetuate the world renown research of Dr. Ryuzo Yanaigimachi. who brought recognition to Hawaii for being an international acclaimed center for biomedical excellence," said Dr. W. Steven Ward, IBR Interim Director. Dr. Yanaigimachi was the first person in the world to clone a mouse in 1998. U.H. is among only five institutions being awarded Thursday with the development grant. |
