The Coast Guard presented John Dacuag of Salt Lake with the gold lifesaving medal. In July 2007, Dacuag jumped into 24-foot seas during typhoon Manyi to rescue a crewman from another cargo ship. Only 713 gold lifesaving medals have been awarded in the history of the Coast Guard.               |
