Another flood at Hamilton Library on the University of Hawaii-Manoa campus this weekend. Debris that accumulated over the years in the gutters, forced the rainwater to back up. UH-Manoa officials say 800-1,000 books were saved. No books or periodicals were lost. In 2007, water leaked through the cracks of the roof, damaging thousands of books and rare tibetan scrolls on the third floor. That caused a quarter of a million dollars damage. In 2004, major flooding actually trapped students in the basement, and caused $45,000,000 damage. Right now, crews are working on repairing the roof. A job that had been delayed for years for financial reasons. |
