In July, federal agents got information that Lance Corporal Charles Carper was selling PVS 14 generation night vision devices on the online auction site. The scopes are used by the military to see long distances at low light. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents say Carper agreed to sell 8 of the devices for $20,000. US Marshals, NCIS, and ice agents searched Carper's home in Honolulu as well as fellow marine Ryan Mathers' apartment in Waipahu. They seized 15 scopes believed to be stolen from the navy. The devices are valued at more than $3,000 each.
