Faced with rising food costs, and a budget shortfall, the Board of Education is considering increasing the price of a hot meal from a $1.25 to $2.00 or more.

That adds up to an extra $15 a month. However, the plan requires a complicated rule change, which would need the governor's signature and a long public hearing process.

If approved, the new prices could go into effect as early as next school year.
