KGMB9 55 Years

When I started working at KGMB9 in 1982, I had no idea that I would still be here 25 years later. As it turns out I've been in this newsroom longer than anyone else.

I guess you would consider me a kind of jack of all trades around the station. I work as a reporter, cameraman, editor, and movie critic. I've covered every kind of news story in my quarter century in TV, but the kinds of pieces I enjoy most are profiles of people and reviews of films. I try to choose movies that I think I will like and be able to recommend. I don't enjoy panning a film, but when it's necessary, I'll do it.

I wasn't born and raised in Hawaii, but I've been here since 1971 when I was hired to teach freshman and sophomore English classes at the University of Hawaii. My roots are in the midwest--I grew up in a small town on the Ohio River, about forty miles south of Pittsburgh, PA.

I have a couple of degrees in English from midwestern universities, and I completed the coursework for a masters program in filmmaking at Stanford.

I met the woman who would become my wife on a plane ride to Honolulu. Nancy Vilhauer is an artist whose paintings cover the walls of our home.

I'm always open to story ideas and feedback from our viewers.

Terry Hunter is KGMB9’s in-house movie critic. You can see his critiques Saturdays on KGMB9 News at 5. Terry is also our resident Video Journalist. He shoots and edits, as well as reports, for all of his stories on KGMB9 News. He has been with KGMB9 since 1982.
