The blackout stretched from Aiea to Waikele and all the way up into Mililani. Hawaiian Electric Company tells us that approximately 27,000 customers lost power. The outage began at about 6:50 Wednesday evening. Traffic lights went out, homes lost power and so did businesses. We've heard reports of people without power in Aiea, Pearl City, Waipahu, Waimalu, Waikele, Mililani, and Mililani Mauka. At exactly 7:38, while our camera was rolling, the lights came back on at the Waimalu Shopping Center. HECO tells us most customers had power restored by 7:45, about 55 minutes after the outage began. They have traced the trouble back to some transmission lines at the Waiau power plant. |
