The report triggered an email alert Thursday to all staff and students. Police said someone reported hearing the man saying that he planned to shoot 30 students. That man got off the bus in McCully. Late Thursday afternoon, police reportedly searched the college of education after getting reports of a man matching the suspect's description. But the suspect was never caught. Students we talked with had mixed reactions on the campus alert. "They sent out an email that everyone should stay in their room as long as possible...they closed the doors and you can only use your key...I'm actually waiting here for someone because I won't go any further...I keep scaring myself, I'm kind of actually really scared," said Milena Kulig, a sophomore at UH Manoa. "I guess in some sense its good to make people aware on the other side it gets everyone on a huff, when most people can go about their day. I see the benefits on both ends," said Leonard Campbell, a junior at UH Manoa. Honolulu police believe the suspect is a homeless man who has made threats before but never carried them out. He's believed to in his forties with black-gray hair and dark eyes, wearing a camouflage shirt with an American flag, khaki shorts and tennis shoes. If you see him, you are asked to call police. |
