It's been nearly eight months since Aloha Airlines shutdown yet this Thanksgiving some of its former employees are back in the airline industry thankful to be flying forward with new careers. Na'i McCarthy has a lot to be thankful for. Not only is she a cancer survivor but she's off on a new career. She's so appreciative she's cooking three turkeys and two hams for her new co-workers. "It just puts the joy of being thankful into our hearts. We just want to do this. It's just part of who we are its just part of Aloha," said McCarthy. She worked for Aloha Airlines 34 years but is now moving on with Mokulele Airlines. "When I had this opportunity to work for Mokulele… I’m very grateful, very grateful," said McCarthy. So far Mokulele has hired more than 50 former Aloha employees who are also giving thanks for the turnabout in their careers. "I'm extremely grateful for first of all family friends and health but also for the opportunity to have a second career at my age," said Regina Shimomura, who worked for Aloha 33 years. "It's just exciting for me, a new chapter in my life that I can venture in," said Roxanne Onuma, who worked for Aloha 24 years. Back at Na’i’s house you'll still see memories of her Aloha past but there are also signs of her Mokulele future. "It was a hard one but now I'm moving on and I'm Mokulele," said McCarthy. |
