"This is the second book in the Ku'una series. It is a story about Ku. There was no food, rain, nor water. They were experiencing a time of famine. In order that they would survive, Ku devised a plan to save them." The Puka'ina Ku'una series by Hale Kuamo'o and Kamehameha Publishing goes beyond just retelling these ancient stories. "Even the English version of the story is full of Hawaiian words and phrases as a means to expose and teach English speakers to the Hawaiian language. This is a list at the end of the book defining and explaining these words and phrases. These supplemental Hawaiian languages lessons are a unique asset to the book." And there is an incentive to purchase if you are an educator within the state of Hawaii. |
