Family and friends celebrated the life of longtime Chaminade President Sue Wesselkamper today. The memorial service was held at St. Patrick's Church in Kaimuki. It featured Hawaiian chants and songs. The casket was carried in by six Chaminade students, as people honored the woman they knew as Dr. Sue. "What was so special about Dr. Sue was that she made people so special," Director of Alumni Relations, Be-Jay Kodama said. "She worked with individuals, the students, the administrators, the leaders on a personal level, and she always made everyone feel comfortable." Wesselkamper was named Chaminade's President in 1995, becoming the first woman to preside over a Hawai`i university. She died last week after a battle with cancer. |
