Wanted Wednesday - James Brock, Jr. Print E-mail

The last thing you expect when you park your car is that it'll get broken into. But that's exactly what happened at a local shopping center last spring and the thief is still on the run. Ramsay Wharton has more on the fugitive in this week's Wanted Wednesday case file.

March 30, 2006. It's 7:30 in the morning and businesses at the Manoa Valley Shopping Center are getting ready to open. 20-year-old James Brock, Jr. is riding with his friend to drop of his friend's girlfriend for work at a bank in the shopping center. Afterwards, Brock and his friend chat with a man in a nearby restroom. That man, about an hour later, spots Brock and his friend breaking into a car in the parking lot.

"The next thing you know he (the witness) sees one suspect in the front seat and the other suspect, identified as James Brock, in the trunk area and he's removing items," said Sergeant Kim Buffett with Honolulu Crimestoppers. "So the witness casually walks up and says hey, what's going on. These two say, oh, this is my friends car he works in the store."

But the witness knows the car's real owner, talks to her and confirms that Brock and his partner have broken into her car. Police say Brock and his friend took off with a Pioneer stereo and a few cds' and some miscellaneous items from her car. They sold it for $60, and spent the money on food and gas.

Police eventually tracked down Brock's accomplice who later implicated him in the crime. Brock, Jr. remains on the run with a 25-thousand dollar warrant for failing to appear in court.

"If he's out there or friends and family know him, we are offering a reward for up to 1000 dollars for his whereabouts," said Sgt. Buffett.

The twenty-year-old Hawaiian male, has brown hair and hazel eyes. He's tall, standing six feet two inches and has a noticable marking.

Buffett said, "He does have a tattoo and it looks like it may be his name on the right side of his neck."

Police say Brock, Jr. has never been convicted of a crime. Concerned residents want him behind bars.

Manoa Valley shopper and Honolulu resident Richard Li said of Brock, "It's a shame you get caught up in the wrong crowd, you know what I mean. Hopefully someone will catch him before he does something really bad, and get him straight, before he gets into anymore trouble."

Brock's last known address was in Waianae, but he's known to frequent both West and East sides of the island. James Brock, Jr. is the fugitive on the run this Wanted Wednesday.
