November 18, 2005. A woman parks her car at a Liliha street parking lot to shop at a local store, Creations by You. Thinking it'll be safe she leaves her purse on the car floor between the front seats. Police say it was a perfect enticement for career criminal Shane Peneku. They say he was in the lot too, waiting for family members to finish their shopping at same store. Sgt. Kim Buffett with Honolulu Crimestoppers said, "Here's a man that takes the opportunity to drop his mother-in-law and wife at the store and while they're in there shopping, decides to break into a vehicle." The victim returns to find her car door unlocked, her passenger window broken, and her purse gone. Police say she turned to nearby Peneku who tried to divert attention from himself. "He's arguing with her, no, no, no that belongs to my mother-in-law. She (the victim) said no. and yells at him and tells him to open the door now, and he does it. So he opens the door, she retrieves the case and identifies her items," said Sgt. Buffett. Police are called to the scene. Buffett said, "The mother in law comes out and says oh, that's not mine. The officers search the car and find the purse, hidden under the front seat." Peneku, a Hawaiian male with dark hair and eyes, has visible acne scars on his face. His name is tattooed across his back and there's a tribal tatoo on his right shoulder. Peneku is known to frequent Leeward, Oahu. Tips that lead to his capture could put up to $1000 in your pocket this holiday season. Shane Peneku is our fugitive on the run this Wanted Wednesday. |
