The Outdoor Circle is calling on concert promoters to stop posting promotional flyers on utility poles on public property.

"I think it's time for the concert promotion business to clean its act on this island and the other islands and to stop wall papering our neighborhoods with illegal flyers," said Outdoor Circle spokesperson Bob Loy.

Friday KGMB9 found dozens of yellow and black flyers promoting the Surf and Roots Fest with Ziggy Marley tacked to poles from Makapuu through Waimanalo.

"It's just a shame that some promoters for concerts think it's OK for them to make money at the expense of the beauty of Hawaii," Loy said.

It is illegal to put ads on public property without permission.

"What will happen is the Department of Transportation will send its crews out. Tax payer money will be spent to clean up the mess that's left by these concert promoters," Loy added.

Shortly after our interview with Loy our crew spotted a state road crew taking down the flyers.

"To tell you the truth, this is too much. This is getting out of hand. And not only that, it doesn't look nice," said DOT worker Jamieson Kanuha while pulling one of the paper flyers from a pole at Waimanalo Beach Park.

Turk Cazimero, of Hawaiian Hurricane Productions, is putting on the concert. He showed KGMB9 large glossy multi colored posters he has put in store fronts, but said the yellow flyers on the utility poles are not his.

"I'm not sure who does it, but they just kind of go crazy and put those things up," Cazimero said. "So, whoever is doing it, I'm letting you guys know, stop. Don't do it, because ... it's reflecting on my company and I don't think it's a good thing."

If you see illegal flyers along the highway, you can tear them down or call the state and it will remove the flyers at tax payer expense.
