The winner of the Heisman Memorial Trophy is the Sophomore Florida Gators Quarterback Tim Tebow. He is the first sophomore to win the Heisman Trophy. The Florida quarterback outpointed Arkansas running back Darren McFadden to win the 73rd Heisman, college football's most prestigious trophy. McFadden has been a Heisman finalist the past two seasons. The junior finished second with 1,703 points to Tebow's 1,957. Hawaii QB Colt Brennan was third with Missouri QB Chase Daniel fourth.
Hard to argue against the decision. He is the first quarterback in Division I football to ever pass and run for more than 20 touchdowns and he led the Gators to nine wins in a very tough SEC conference.
"It's a little bit of a let down," said Warrior fan Aaron Yee. "He had a really awesome season and it wasn't as good as last season but he did sit out two games because of injuries. And so I would love to see him win it but if he didn't then it's ok with me."
"Tebow's a great player and he deserves it as well. But looking at the success of people who actually win the Heisman and go on to have success in the NFL, maybe it's not a bad thing that Colt didn't win it," said fan Lanson Kupau. "I think Colt has a pretty good NFL career ahead of him and we wish him all the best of luck."
Earlier today and before the announcement, Colt Brennan appeared on ESPN's "The Pulse" and he had his prediction on who was deserving of the Heisman hardwear.
"Well I think that with how the college football awards went. I think Tim Tebow's probably going to get the award tonight. It's kinda hard to win the best player in America and the best quarterback in America and not win the Heisman. I think he probably has the Heisman locked up," Brennan said on "The Pulse." "But I've had a great experience at Hawaii. I don't know if any other college football player is able to say that they were able to play in the two biggest games in school history at the end of the year and win those games and elevate a state and a program to where we've taken it. Me and my team are completely thrilled about where we've gone and the Sugar Bowl. And you know it's just a great honor to be here and I think that's what everyone needs to understand."
Now if you compare the two quarterbacks numbers, Tebow obviously had a tremendous season combining for 51 total touchdowns. But Colt's numbers were not far behind. Brennan combined for 46 touchdowns in 2007. And while Hawaii went 12-0, Tebow's Gators suffered three losses in a 9-3 year.
