She called a press conference on behalf of Lisa Matsumoto's family, expressing their grief over the car accident that killed the local playwright and injured a mother of two. Early Friday morning, police said Matsumoto was driving the wrong way on the H-1 freeway when she crashed head-on with Cassie Olaivar. Both were wearing seat-belts; both airbags deployed. Autopsy results show neck injuries killed Matsumoto and that she was extremely drunk. Sources tell KGMB9 her blood alcohol content was 0.25. That's more three times the legal limit. The Medical Examiner's Office called her condition "acute alcohol intoxication." Based on KGMB9's research, that's basically the same as alcohol poisoning. During the press conference, KGMB9 asked about Matsumoto's intoxication that night but Catracchia would not comment on that. "She put a lot of people's live in danger that night," said KGMB9's Tina Chau to Catracchia. "Unfortunately, as a representative of the family, they've asked me not to answer questions at this time. As a representative of the family, I have to honor their wishes," replied Catracchia. Olaivar suffered leg and head injuries but has been upgraded from serious to stable condition. "We want to caution everybody that if you are going to go to a party or you are going to go out, out and about, and be drinking alcohol, that you have a designated driver," said Maj. Susan Dowsett of the Honolulu Police Department. Matsumoto's funeral is slated for January. |
