I can't believe over 14 years have passed since I first started at KGMB9. I love everything about my job anchoring weeknights at 5:00, 6:00 and 10:00 and truly feel blessed to be working and living in one of the most beautiful places on earth.

I started at KGMB9 in 1993 as the weeknight Weather Anchor after reporting at stations in Austin, Texas and Gainesville, Florida. (By the way, I'm a University of Texas Grad and a big "Longhorn" fan!)

I spent 8 fun years as KGMB9's "Weathergirl" before moving on to the news desk.

In addition to covering the hard news of the day, I love sharing stories that highlight all that's unique and special about Hawaii. I've had the opportunity to travel aboard the Polynesian Voyaging Canoes, Hokulea and Hawaiiloa to produce documentaries on their trips to Tahiti, Alaska and Rapa Nui. I've also camped on Kahoolawe to report on the clean-up of the island after years of military bombing, had the rare opportunity to swim with Humpback Whales in Lahaina and even soared to 9-G's over Oahu with the Air Force Thunderbirds.

I treasure the Na Manu A Ka'ae Award I received from the Hawaiian community for perpetuating and promoting the Hawaiian language and the "Keep It Hawaii" Award given to me by the Hawaii Visitors Bureau for coverage of local culture.

I've also won an Emmy for Cultural Affairs Reporting and Society of Professional Journalists awards for feature reporting.

My love of journalism started around the age of 12 and it's an embarrassing story. I was a teen with a big crush on John Travolta and decided, at that young age, the only way I would ever get to meet him would be to become a reporter. I joined the school paper then and the rest is history. Then in July of 2007 - I fulfilled that lifelong dream when I got a chance to meet and interview John and his wife Kelly at a Honolulu fundraiser. I told him my story on camera and I'll never forget the hug he gave me next.

On a more serious note, I really believe all journalists have an obligation to be curious about everything, ask tough questions and serve the community they work for. I am grateful to the viewers who have allowed me that opportunity for all these years and look forward to a lot more great things to come at KGMB9.

When I'm not at work or playing with our two toddlers you'll usually find me at the gym training or doing something outdoors like hiking, scuba-diving or "sunning" while my husband Weatherman Guy Hagi hits the surf.

Kim Gennaula co-anchors KGMB9 News at 5 and co-anchors KGMB9 News at 6 and 10, every weekday evening. She has been with KGMB9 since 1994.
