Police are still looking for the person who open fired on the group of teens ranging from 16 to 19 years old. No one was killed but one teen was hurt by a ricocheted bullet. Two chairs tell a story about what happened Wednesday night at McCully Shopping center. Each one is splintered by a bullet hole, signifying a gun shot that could have hit a teenager. "We do have video from the shopping center that shows the male approaching this group and the next thing we see is people just running, and the suspect running with the gun," said Kim Buffet, of Crimestoppers. Police would not release the surveillance video to the public because the case involves juveniles, but say a group of teens approached another group of teenagers hanging out in front of Phuket Thai. After an argument, one of the boys fired several shots with a handgun. The bullets all missed the teens, instead hit the wall and a couple of chairs. "We have 12 victims here and everyone is giving a different account," said Buffet. "It's probably due to trauma being involved in the shooting." Police are looking for the shooter, who is now wanted on 12 counts of attempted murder. "My reaction is to not let my 14-year-old come down here by herself," said Dominic Flores. Flores lives in McCully. He says most nights there are large groups of teenagers hanging out at the strip mall. Those who work at McCully Shopping Center tell us that it's a popular place for teenagers to hang out because many of the stores are open late at night. "What do the teens seem like they are up to every night?" asked Reporter Sabrina Hall. "No good!," said Flores. "I mean I have kids of my own and I think when you have teenagers out past 12 a.m. it's just not a good idea." The shopping center has no comment. Police say they recovered the high caliber handgun used in the shooting behind the shopping center on Lime Street. They are currently recovering fingerprints from it. Police are hoping someone will come forward with more information on the shooter. If you know anything call Crimestoppers at 955-8300. |
