The Honolulu Zoo is expanding its Sumatran tiger exhibit. That's because zoo officials are also hoping to expand the tiger family.

Construction began last month on the new extension that'll give the zoo's three Sumatran tigers more room to roam. The two tigresses must be separated, so the expansion will also allow zookeepers to create an additional mating area when the time comes. The facility will include a small pool for the tigers and a large glass viewing area for visitors to get up close and personal.

Opening is set for November 6. Officials say cubs could be here in the new year.
