Right now, they're touring the facilities on the upper campus at UH Manoa. Part of the reason why June Jones left was because facilities he said were not well kept. One of the best examples we can show you is cooke field, its one of the practice facilities. Its falling apart and senators said this is very frustrating to them because they weren't told about things like this. They said the University never asked for money for those improvements. On Thursday, the state senators toured the campus starting at the athletic department where they saw coaches offices from several sports. They also saw a section of department that went unfinished because they ran out of money. Senators said this is very frustrating because this is some what of an easy fix and it wouldn't cost that much money to finish. They also saw the locker rooms that Colt Brennan made a fuss about earlier this season when there wasn't soap for the players. Senators also noticed damage in other rooms and buildings. Some of the senators said they expected it to be much worse. "Clearly there are some areas that need improvement at the University and their athletics area. It wasn't quite as bad as I was anticipating. With everything I've been seeing in the news I was expecting it to be a real dumb, and its not," said Sen. Roz Baker. "I don't see them advocating or fighting as hard as they can be," said Sen. Donna Mercado Kim. They also looked at Herman Fraizer's office. They are hoping that the next athletic director to come on will have better communication with the senators to try and ask for some improvements so they can help improve the facilities. They said they cannot undo the past, however they can help improve the future. |
