Nancy Asiata Chanco thinks what happened was a grudge against her because she would often tell the accused killer, Matthew Higa, to stay away from her son. She denies that Higa ever baby-sat little Cyrus. She told the Honolulu Advertiser she thinks Higa broke into her apartment Thursday and took him. "I'll never ever have this weirdo watch my son," said Chanco, "I want to get that on. He stole my baby! The front door wasn't lock. We never lock the door because I would never have my key ever. We lock the latch on the screen door so baby can't get out, but baby can open the main door and once he opens the main door, he was so outspoken. He'll just yell at anybody that walks by." Police tell us they found little Cyrus wandering on the street alone Thursday morning. Officers followed procedure and returned him home. Asiata Chanco does have a record with the state. Child Welfare Services confirms it opened an investigation in 2002. At the time, Asiata Chanco tested positive for drugs several times. She does have three other children; two are in someone else's custody. Cyrus' uncle Ron officially identified the little boy Friday afternoon. His mother was too overwhelmed with grief to do so herself. Related Stories: Mom Says Neighbor Kidnapped Toddler |
