Like many in this business, I made my way to the anchor desk by working behind the scenes. After two years at the University of Hawaii, I transferred to Colorado State University to major in broadcast journalism. Soon after graduation, I returned home to later become a photographer at KGMB9. In four years with a camera on my shoulder, my greatest moment was a trek up Haiku Stairs. I got thru all 1,000-plus steps (some which barely had any footing to them). The government report done with reporter Russell Shimooka earned us both an award from the Society of Professional Journalists. Eventually my move in front of the camera moved me from news to sports, and the rest is history I guess. Thanks to the teamwork by our department I have two Emmys. The golden statues were both for special programs for "Warrior Football: The Road to Respect" (2002) and "Perfect in Paradise" (2008). My personal sports passion is canoe paddling. I paddled for Roosevelt High School, Waikiki Surf Club and even Team Hawaii in the World Sprints. I've competed in races in Tahiti, New Zealand and Fiji and crossed the Molokai Channel twice. Needless to say, I've become a lot more comfortable being called the "sports lady" because it allows me to do what I do best...just be a fan.
