"He's kneeling down. She's tries to look at him. He's acting kind of strange and avoiding eye contact. He wouldn't look her way. He's got on a hood -- a black hooded jacket," said Kim Buffett of Honolulu Crimestoppers. About 15 minutes later, police say Rapun starts banging on a store window. "She goes out and says, 'hey what's the matter'. He reaches into his jacket, pulls out a knife, and starts thrusting it at her, saying 'what, what.' The woman screams and police say the husband runs out to find Rapun threatening her with a knife, then Rapun turns the knife towards him. The owners of the store say Rapun wasn't just threatening them with just any size knife it was a knife the size of a macheti. Police say a good sumaritan driving by stops to try and help by calling for Rapun from across the street to distract him from the couple. It works, but Rapun chases him down and in a scuffle, cuts the man's arm. Police arrested Rapun for terroristic threatening but he was released pending trial. Rapun never showed up for court and remains on the run. The 21-year-old Rapun is described as a Micronesian man, about 5'3" tall, 110 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. "A lot of times people just want to find out what's going on and they're not really thinking about, you know, calling police," said Buffett. "But in these times, there's so much mental- health issues, drug issues. Just call us and we'll come and investigate the case." |
