The highly anticipated store broke ground Thursday at Kapolei commons.

The site for one of two new Oahu Target stores.

Target boasts high fashion and quality at affordable prices, as well as giving generously to various charities. The Kapolei Target will be 160,000 square feet and employ 300 people.

The big box store experienced very little opposition from communities when the two Oahu stores were proposed.

"I actually bring an entire empty suitcase and fill it up with all my Target products. So trust me I am probably one of Target's biggest supporters. So the fact that you're going to be here in Kapolei is a wonderful thing," said Representative Sharon Har.

Construction begins in March and last until 2009.

A second Target groundbreaking is set for Friday at the old Costco in Salt Lake.

Both stores are scheduled to open in March of next year.
