The 17 year old is very sick with leukemia. "My cancer came back my third time now," he said. Imagine how he felt to get a standing ovation Tuesday. It was his graduation day. "Today is his day," said his foster father Alfred Ragasa. "He's very proud. He's very excited." Aiea High School's senior class graduates in June. Because of Sato's illness it put together a special ceremony to award him an honorary diploma. It was his wish. "We all need someone like Andrew who inspire us to do better," said principal Michael Tokioka. Abandoned by his birth parents, Andrew was raised in shelters and foster homes. He finally found a family in Aiea. "I'll be with him until the end. I won't leave him," said his foster mother Lin Gamata. Three hundred Aiea seniors packed the school gym. Sato made a mark on them. "Andrew in so many ways has brought our class together and really taught us the value of life and friendship," said Kaylyn Dunhour. Sato has plans to go to college, to be a chef, to live to see both happen. That's another wish. Maybe it will come true, too. |
