For the first time in about a decade the largest police force in the Northwest has recruiters here in Hawaii.

The Seattle Police Department has 105 openings at a starting pay of $47,000 dollars plus a $5,000 signing bonus.

Recruiters were getting the word out at the Criminal Justice Career Expo at Chaminade University.

Seattle officers said they came to Hawaii to recruit because of the quality of the people here.

"We have several Hawaiians in our department. They have a great work ethic. Great community oriented people. Those are the type of people that we want to continue to get on our department," said Officer Monique Avery.

Recruiters are targeting college students and troops about to leave the military.

The recruiters are also planning campus visits and will be at the Schofield Barracks ACAP Center Thursday at 10 a.m.
