A few hundred people crowded into a cafeteria at Farrington High School Monday afternoon to rally in support of democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama. Actress Kelly Hu, Congressman Neil Abercrombie and Obama's sister Maya Soetoro-Ng spoke to the crowd. Earlier in the day, Hu and Soetoro-Ng joined a few dozen Obama supporters on a trolley ride through downtown Honolulu, Waikiki and other neighborhoods. "We're trying to hit as many neighborhoods as possible and also hit people in intersections and in their cars making sure that they know tomorrow is caucus day," Soetoro-Ng told KGMB9. Obama backers waved signs and cheered as the trolly slowly made it's way down crowded streets. When the trolley stopped, supporters got out to pass out flyers and encourage people to vote for Obama during the democratic caucus Tuesday night. "Well we're just stopping along the way to get the word out we got a great native son that needs some votes at caucus tomorrow night," said Roger Petticord during a stop at Ala Moana Beach Park. "He's inspiring, yet he has substance. He's not polarizing like his opponent. He doesn't have all the baggage that she has. He's just a new face to the world, an incredible new face to the world that will just announce that, hey, America is back," Petticord added. "He's charismatic. He can bring this nation together and start its healing because goodness knows this nation needs some right now," Hu told KGMB9. |
