Wanted Wednesday: Toni Naluai Print E-mail

Police say she used fake receipts to steal more than $5,000 worth of high-end electronics from a local Sam's Club. And now she's on the run.

Ramsay Wharton has more on Toni Naluai in this week's Wanted Wednesday case file.

July 10, 2006. Sam's Club on Keeaumoku Street is busy with shoppers, but Honolulu police say 32-year-old Toni Naluai and her boyfriend weren't interested in buying, but stealing. Police say she and her boyfriend printed and used fake receipts to exit the store with thousands of dollars worth of electronics.

"Two computers were taken. An X-box and a 42 inch plasma t.v.," said Sgt. Kim Buffett with Honolulu Crimestoppers.

Police say the store would do inventory on June 17, and discover those high ticket items missing. They'd go to the surveillance tape and discover Naluai and her boyfriend behind the thefts.

Sam's Club internally alerted its workers, showed them pictures of the couple, and told them to be on the lookout for Naluai and her boyfriend. Police say, sure enough, just ten days after the crime, Naluai was spotted back in the store.

Authorities say she showed another fake receipt, for more of the same items. Police say Naluai's bogus receipts didn't have the store's special security marking and this time, with security watching, workers allowed her to leave the store and then sent in security.

"She exits the store and security stops her and asks to verify her receipt. She in the meantime, obviously knowing something was wrong, gets nervous, gets on her cell phone and next thing you know, she's running," said Buffett.

Later that day, police would track down and arrest Naluai and recover the stolen goods, but naluai would never show up for her court date.

Police describe her as a Hawaiian female, 5'5" tall, weighing 130 pounds with dark hair and dark eyes. She may or maynot be wearing her hair in braids -- called corn rows.

Naluai has been arrested 22 times, for various offenses including theft and drugs. Police say she has six convictions involving felony contempt, abuse and prostitution.

And she several alias said Sgt. Buffett, "She is also know as Antoinette Kamakea. She also goes by Toni Naluai, Toni Kamakea, Toni Kanani Kamakea and Nani."

Naluai frequents the Honolulu, Waikiki and Windward side.  Helping police find her, could put up to a $1000 in your pocket.

Honolulu Crimestoppers: 955-8300 or call police at 911.
