Dead Whale Attracts Sharks in West Maui

On Maui, beware of sharks along a west Maui beach not far from Lahaina.

A dead humpback whale has attracted the creatures near Puamana beach, they were feeding on it before it came ashore Monday morning.

Sharks were going after the calf early Monday morning.

The area was closed as DLNR crews watched for sharks.

Pacific Whale Foundation officials said the calf believed to be just a couple weeks old, appeared unhealthy and emaciated.

A necropsy will be performed to determine the cause of death.
