Discover Surf at the Sheraton-Waikiki Print E-mail

Would be surfers are getting an unique opportunity to rides the waves, without the wipeout.
Sheraton-Waikiki has unveiled a new virtual surf experience, called Discover Surf. Ramsay Wharton checked it out.

Vistitors and locals are checking out the surf "inside" the Sheraton-Waikiki Hotel. Stepping onto the 9 foot longboard challenges riders to work the 30 foot waves, pull out some tricks and avoid great white sharks.

The Sheraton-Waikiki partnered with Discover Surf creator, Paul Goo, the CEO of Tsunami Surf Simulators to bring the experience to it's guest. Goo says Discover Surf is the world's only "true surf" simulator, using a real surfboard with wireless technology that allows riders to be free standing and able to fully engage waves with an interactive program that's projected on a 60' flat screen plasma TV.

Goo says, "It's the perfect way for non-wave riders to get a taste of the movements and balance needed for real surfing."

Free and fun for all ages, Sheraton-Waikiki's Director of Fun, Richard Vidinha says it's especially great for people who, "for health or age reasons, may never make out into the real surf."

Vidinha says it's a great surfing experience that takes the fear out of surfing and encourages guests, and locals, to try out the real thing.

Discover Surf also allows you to have a customized ride, complete with your own photo inserted into the video. There are plenty of photo opporutunities available for riders and guests can also purchase a PC version of the Discover Surf video game for their home computer for $25.
