Wanted Wednesday: Frederick Wong Print E-mail

An Oahu Grand Jury indicted him for stealing thousands of dollars from the payroll of a company hired to stock shelves at the Navy's Pearl Harbor Commissary. Now, he's on the run. Ramsay Wharton has more on Frederick Wong in this week's Wanted Wednesday case file.

From August of 2002 to May of 2006, Honolulu police say three workers, paid by a company to stock shelves at the Pearl Harbor Navy Commissary, were running a paycheck scam with help of this man, 58 year old Frederick Wong.

Wong handled timesheets and payroll as the Project Manager for Trace Inc., which paid the stockboys for their work at the commissary. But police say Wong gave the workers more than $20,000 that they didn't earn.

Sgt. kim Buffett said, "The employees were found that their time sheets were inflated. one employee was actually not even working, but receiving a pay stub. the other two employees weren't working the hours that he said they were working."

Police say Wong had a deal with the workers and got a cut of their fat paychecks, but the heat was on.

"The company somehow got wind and started their own investigation and scheduled and unannounced visit here, this is a mainland based company. He got wind of it and that day, fed exed in his resignation," said Buffett.

But before resigning, police say a Wong pulled a switch with his computers.

"He turned in the computers, but what the computers had in them, he bought computers that were replicas of the computers he was using," said Buffett. "So when they got the computer back all records were gone, non existing, they were new computers. he kept the files that he had originally."

Wong has been in trouble with the law before with six convictions among them theft cases that date back to 1971.

This past December, after sifting through the evidence, a Grand Jury indicted Wong for theft in the first degree. He's now wanted on a $50,000 Grand Jury warrant.

Police describe Wong as a Japanese man, 5'7", 148 pounds. He was last tied to the Aiea area..and helping police find him could put up to a $1,000 in your pocket.
