Frederick Wiseman is one of the most well-respected documentary filmmakers in America. In the film world he is referred to as the godfather of American documentary filmmaking. He's made over 30 PBS documentaries on subjects primarily devoted to exploring American institutions. His films have become a record of the western world and a reflection on democracy. Frederick Wiseman will present “Titicut Follies” on Friday, February 29 at 7:30 p.m. in an exclusive screening for the Friends of Film Friday membership; however, there are available walk-in tickets for $15 for non-members, $14 museum members. Avi Soifer, Dean of the William S. Richardson Law School at the University of Hawai‘i will also be hosting him an incoming Inouye Chair. Fred Wiseman will be giving a public lecture at the both the law school and colleges of Arts & Sciences at UH. Friends of Film Friday membership includes a pre-screening dessert and punch reception for the Hawaii film community, including fellow film buffs, actors, directors, and newcomers to connect, converse, and dialogue about cinema. For 10 consecutive Fridays, three times a year, the Honolulu Academy of Arts will present international, independent, and restored classic films for a limited membership. These films will be announced a week before each screening. Related Link: |
