"What's up my name is r -dizzle -fo-shizzle -my nizzle-off -da hizzle--drizzle," said Ryan. "Yo! What's up my name is Mike," said Sean. Ryan Higa, 17, and Sean Fujiyoshi, 16, are wowing young teenagers around the world, from the U.S. to Singapore to Mexico. "We're number one most subscribed comedians on You Tube," said Higa. With just a Panasonic video camera and a home computer, these Big Island teenagers from Waiakea High School have taken their comedy skits and rocketed themselves to internet stardom. More than 150,000 people subscribe to their postings, and their videos have millions of hits…almost six million for their skit "How to be a Ganster." "You better have a cool quick handshake with all your homies," says Fujiyoshi in the video. "We first started because it's the Big Island and it's pretty much one of the most boring places ever, so we started making videos for our entertainment and our family," Higa said. But they said about a year ago their videos... "How to be Ninja, How to be Nerd, How to be a Gangster and How to be Emo," said one fan. And it began attracting millions of young fans, including Royce Mori, 13. "I subscribed and from there every time they get a new one I watch it," said Mori. "They are always funny. They don't have one that is not funny." That's a big compliment, but a common one for the boys who say they now get recognized almost everywhere they go. "The most common thing we hear is 'Oh I like your guys videos. They are really funny,'" Higa said. "It's an interesting experience because you never know what might happen and how fast it spreads," said Fujiyoshi. And their parents said the best part of their internet antics is that it keeps them out of trouble. In all, the two teens have uploading about 40 videos and post a new one about every two weeks. They said they feel responsible for keeping their fans happy. But as for a future career in comedy, both said instead they have plans to go to college, one for engineering the other for nuclear medicine. |
