At about noon yesterday, the lava that was sliding into the ocean was no longer visible. Tourists who made the long-trek to the viewing area were out of luck. But today, the Hawaiian Volcano Observatory says the flow that hit the ocean last Wednesday is still active. It may have been hard to see, but it never stopped. Experts also say lava is starting to break out in new spots around the Royal Gardens subdivision. That's creating new fingers of lava heading toward the ocean. The viewing site is still open from 2 to 10 at night. The last cars are allowed in at 8 p.m. Related Stories: Visitors Get Up Close to Kilauea Lava Flow |
