DNA evidence was at the center of day seven in Lankford's murder trial. Lankford is accused of murdering the Japanese visitor and disposing of her body. And today, a DNA analyst from the Honolulu Police Department testified DNA found on his passenger-side door panel, floor mat, and black weather stripping was a perfect match to Watanabe. And a pair of glasses found in his truck also had traces of her DNA. “How many people would you expect to evaluate before finding another with the same DNA profile as Masumi Watanabe? Using the most conservative estimate is one in 45.6 billion,” said Samantha Kashimoto, DNA Analyst. Watanabe has been missing since April of last year. Police say they were able to collect her DNA samples. By swabbing her tooth brush, hair brush and razor. Lankford's defense attorney did not argue with the DNA evidence, but pointed out there was only a small amount of it found in Lankford's truck. Tomorrow, the judge and jury will be taking a field trip to Pupukea. Jurors will be retracing the steps of Lankford and Watanabe on the day she disappeared. |
