A week after an egging incident, Saint Louis School is talking about the investigation of students allegedly involved. But now says it will not release any details of any possible punishment. It was last Friday night that Gerard Jervis allegedly chased down 4 st. louis teenagers and rammed their car. His attorney says he was frustrated after he caught them egging his house. The 17 year olds are all students at Saint Louis School. In a statement, St. Louis says:
"As one of Hawaii's oldest and well respected schools in the state, Saint Louis School maintains a standard for all students known as the Code of Student Behavior. These standards seek to educate the whole person-academically, socially, morally, and spiritually in a strong Catholic Marianists framework. These standards which have been taught for years help to educate and develop these boys to become "Saint Louis Men, Gentlemen of Character." The traits of the "Saint Louis Man" are expected to be adhered to on and off campus in all walks of life.
They are indeed accountable for their actions. They are to be commended for good behavior and reprimanded for actions not becoming of the Saint Louis Man. When the behavior of a Saint Louis School student off campus and away from school functions casts a negative reflection upon our school, Administration works closely with the parents and the student to find a resolution. The actions of our Saint Louis students this past weekend in Lanikai are not representative of the behavior we expect, nor are they reflective of our entire student body.
The reports in the media have cast a negative reflection on our school and on these students and their families in particular. Based on what's been reported in the media, it would be so easy to condemn these students and our school. But we must do what is right for everyone concerned. We MUST make decisions based upon the true facts, not mere allegations. The School's Administration has done a partial investigation, and made decisions based on those results. But we have not been able to complete a full investigation of the facts because we could not access any official reports due to the ongoing investigation by law enforcement officials and the judicial process. We are going to be respectful of that legal process. After careful deliberation and consultation, the School has decided on appropriate disciplinary actions which are consistent with the School's Code of Student Behavior. We will continue to work very closely with the parents for the benefit of our students and their future. The school considers disciplinary action an internal matter and it will be held as a private and confidential matter. In the future should any new information relevant to our decision come to light that was not previously considered we will address it accordingly at that time.
"We do not condone any negative behavior from our students---but we will not abandon any Saint Louis family member either as parents or educators. While these students' choices were not particularly wise-they come from good families and are good kids who hopefully learned a life altering lesson," said Walter Kirimitsu, President. Saint Louis School will continue to vigorously pursue the Saint Louis School tradition of educating our young men into Gentlemen of Character and provide a nurturing environment for our families to raise these young men. Saint Louis School is an independent Catholic Marianist School, building "gentlemen of character "while providing a contemporary all boys' private school education, with a broadening international perspective.
