Students from Kalaheo, Kahuku, Castle and Kaimuki competed in the Department of Education sanctioned event. Waves were 2-4 feet with occasional higher sets. After years of debate, Hawaii's Board of Education voted to approve surfing as an interscholastic sport in May of 2004. Many rules had to be put into place, but event coordinators say they're excited the day has finally come. |
