The Park Service wants everyone to stay away from the lava delta. It's not a stable area. The flow going into the ocean has created shelves of drying lava that could collapse without warning. Scientists said explosions are possible that could send rocks and lava flying up to a quarter of a mile. And the sulphur dioxide levels are also dangerously high. So county workers are being stationed on the Kalapana side of the flow to keep people on the designated path and away from the delta. |
