
| Honolulu Rail Gets Key Congressman's Support |

The chairman of the U.S. House Transportation Committee is in Hawaii. Congressman Jim Oberstar said Honolulu's planned mass transit system "just has to happen." The Minnesota Democrat said Honolulu can count on about $900 million in federal money to go toward the $3.7-billion rail system. Oberstar and Hawaii Congresswoman Mazie Hirono took to the air this week to tour Oahu and Maui. On the Valley Island, Oberstar supported a number of proposals, including repairing earthquake damage to Piilani Highway and modernizing Kahului Harbor. |
