"The state was allowed to bring out people to show them points we thought were significant in the case and had been discussed in the courtroom. This was the defense opportunity to do the same thing," said city prosecutor Peter Carlisle. One stop was the intersection of Aukaka Road and Pupukea Road. Lankford maintains it was near that intersection where he accidentally hit Masumi Watanabe with his truck last April 12 as she walked along Pupukea Road. It's the day she went missing. The defense said Lankford tried to help Watanabe but she died accidentally when she jumped out of Lankford's Hauoli pest exterminator truck and hit her head on a large rock on Makana Road. The field trip ended at Kualoa beach where Lankford said he dumped Watanabe's body. He's charged with second-degree murder. Monday's field trip was the second excursion in the trial. Lankford could take the stand when the trial resumes Wednesday. |
