The University of Hawaii is getting ready to test its emergency texting system and it wants more students to sign up to receive the alerts.

Since it opened the emergency notification system a month ago, 2,300 students have signed up. That's just 10-percent of the total enrollment at all 10 UH campuses.

Currently the sign up for emergency notifications is only available to those who have a UH username and password. Members of the UH community can sign up online at www.hawaii.edu/alert.
