A grand jury has indicted a local fighter for assault. And police say he's wanted for trial. Ramsay Wharton has more on ...Jacob Del Mundo-Faagai in this week's Wanted Wednesday case file.

September 21, 2007, that's when this you tube video was taken of mixed martial arts fighter, Jake Faagai, in the black shorts...seen here winning a bout at a Blaisdell event last year. (Correction youtube fight location: The O'Lounge, unsanctioned fight, not an MMA event)

But police say Faagai is known to use his fighting skills outside the ring...hurting innocent people. Police say his full name is Jacob Del Mundo-Faagai, and authorities say just a week before that fight last year, the 26 year old, and another man, attacked the ex-boyfriend of a girl Del Mundo was dating. (Correction: Police say the victim was a man who was dating the ex-girlfriend of a friend of Faagai.)

"The victim was at home. He came outside. He knew one of the males. As soon as he got outside, he was held down. He was assaulted." Sgt. Kim Buffett of Crimestoppers.

Buffett said, "So he has two broken ribs, multiple bruises and abrasions and he has a ripped lip, so he was punched hard enough in the mouth that his teeth went actually through his lip."

Police say Del Mundo-Faagai fled the scene, but the victim id him.

On February. 20th, a grand jury indicted Del Mundo-Faagai on the Assault 2 charge. The prosecutor's office wants him arrested and in court, because his trial starts in just two weeks on April 28th.

Police say Del Mundo-Faagai was on probation at the time, convicted of assaulting the ex-husband of a girl he dated back in 2004. That incident happened at a Pearlridge bar.

"He is dangerous. He has the fighting skills. He is causing injuries to his victims. So, again, we are looking for him," said Buffett.

Del Mundo-Faagai is wanted on a 50,000 Grand Jury Warrant.

Internet photos suggest he's taken part in local mixed martial arts events early this year, ranking ninth among the heavy weights, according to one website.

Del Mundo-Faagai is described as 6'1", 270 pounds with black hair and brown eyes. He has numerous tatoos including "samoa" across his chest, the letter's U-S-O on his arm and the zip code...9-6-7-9-2 on his hand.

Buffett said, "If you do know his whereabouts, its better that he clears up this court case. This is a trial that is set for him April 28, 2008. If he misses that trial they're be another warrant issued for him, and they'll be have another charge against him."

Del Mundo - Faagai is known to frequent the Waianae area. Helping police find him, could put up to a thousand bucks in your pocket. Jacob Del Mundo-Faagai is our fugitive on the run this wanted wednesday.

Other information since airing story:

According to Icon Sport promoter, Patrick Freitas, the youtube video of Faagai was taken from a boxing/kickboxing promotion, not a professional fight sanctioned by the Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) organization.

Freitas says, the MMA is currently regulated by the Dept of Commerce and Consumer and RICO division. He says all MMA promotions/promoters must be licensed by this agency, and all MMA fighters must meet basic medical standards established by the DCCA. Freitas says kickboxing events, like that seen in the Faagai youtube video, is sometimes marketed as "XMA" or extreme fighting and is not regulated. Freitas adds that "Mixed Martial Arts" or "MMA" is the only name of that sport. Noting that the media often incorrectly call it "ultimate fighting," "cage fighting," and "no holds barred fighting." Freitas says these phrases are both antiquated and inaccurate.
